COLLECTION ONE:
Victoria Building
The Alfred Waterhouse Preservation Project strives to gather and creatively share the story of one the most prolific Victorian Liverpudlian Architects, Alfred Waterhouse. The Preservation Project is multifaceted as a multimedia project consisting of this mixed-media website, text, photographs, and a debut short film about The University of Liverpool’s Victoria Building. The film is catalogued across five intertwined story pathways which you can access in any order that piques your interest or in the original chronological order.
The Five Chapter Pathways of The Victoria Building Collection:
-
Chapter One: The Architect - The life of Liverpudlian, Alfred Waterhouse, and his other significant projects in the Liverpool City Region.
-
Chapter Two: The Building — Exterior - Often described as a piece of art itself, we examine the outside of the building and talk about how it has evolved and introduce you to the history of the building.
-
Chapter Three: The Building — Interior - In Waterhouse's incredible signature High Victorian Eclecticism, the inside of the building is as glorious as the outside. We take a look at the Gothic Revival and German Romanesque styles that the acclaimed architect implemented which is now home to the University of Liverpool's collections of artefacts including their sculptures and artwork, in addition to a coffee shop and event space.
-

Chapter Five: Hidden Stories - We look at Victoria Building’s hidden stories that may otherwise go unnoticed.
-
